The Nintendo Switch has quickly become a popular gaming console among both casual and hardcore gamers. Its portable design and versatility make it a great option for gaming on the go or at home.

But with its increasing popularity, many users are wondering if the Switch is capable of streaming popular services like Netflix. In this article, I will dive into whether or not the Nintendo Switch has Netflix and how to access it if it is available.

Unfortunately as of this time, the Nintendo Switch does not have Netflix available on the console. Although there have been rumors about a Netflix app being added to the Switch that has been around for multiple years and nothing has ever come of it.

Netflix is a streaming service that provides television shows and movies for users to watch on demand. It is available on many devices, including smartphones, tablets, PCs, and game consoles like the PlayStation and Xbox. However, the Nintendo Switch does not currently have Netflix.

There have been rumors in the past that Netflix may come to the Nintendo Switch someday, but nothing has been officially announced.

Netflix has a successful history of bringing its streaming service to other consoles, so it is possible that it could come to the Switch at some point in the future. However, until then, Nintendo Switch owners will not be able to access Netflix.

Fortunately, there are other options for Nintendo Switch owners who want to watch movies and television shows on their consoles. The Nintendo eShop offers a variety of video streaming services, including Hulu, YouTube, and Crunchyroll.

For now, Netflix is not available on the Nintendo Switch. But there are still plenty of other options for Switch owners who want to watch movies and television shows on their console.

If you want to learn more about Netflix on the Switch and why some people think that you can access it you can watch the video that I created on the subject below.

Streaming Services The Switch Has (Since You Can’t Install Netflix)

So now you know that the Nintendo Switch does not have a Netflix app but what streaming apps does it currently have that you can download and use?

Currently, the only video streaming apps available on the Switch are:

  • Hulu
  • Youtube
  • Crunchy Roll
  • Twitch
  • Funimation
  • Pokemon TV

Hulu, and YouTube are the two main apps that most people will recognize that will provide a great selection of TV shows, movies, and more.

Hulu has a large selection of current TV shows as well as many movies. So although the Switch doesn’t have many of the most popular streaming apps (like Netflix or Disney Plus) having access to Hulu is nice.

The YouTube app on the Switch brings you the latest videos from all over the web, giving you plenty of entertainment options to choose from.

For gamers, the Nintendo Switch also has a few great streaming options. Twitch is the go-to platform for streaming video games and provides a great way to watch your favorite streamers in action.

Can You Watch Netflix On Other Nintendo Consoles Besides The Switch?

Obviously, the Nintendo Switch console is the newest one that has been released by Nintendo. But since you can’t install or stream Netflix on the new Nintendo Switch console what about other Nintendo consoles from the past like the Nintendo Wii U or Wii consoles?

Although originally you could stream Netflix on the Wii U and 3DS that was discontinued as of the end of June 2021. So currently there’s no official way to watch Netflix programs on any Nintendo console.

Originally Nintendo just removed the Netflix app from the Nintendo e-Shop for these consoles so you could still watch Netflix if you already had downloaded the app. But then they removed that functionality entirely and you could no longer stream Netflix at all as of July 2021.

Nintendo does not intend their consoles to be used as streaming devices and there is currently no way to watch Netflix on their consoles either. Why Nintendo has the Hulu and Youtube apps available for streaming but not Netflix is anyone’s guess but as of now, that’s just how it is.

Will Netflix Ever Come To The Nintendo Switch?

The Switch is an incredibly versatile console that allows you to play all sorts of games and even has many different streaming apps. One app that is missing is Netflix but will that ever change? Is it possible that Netflix will eventually come to the Switch console?

While there is no official announcement from Nintendo or Netflix regarding the availability of their streaming services on the Switch, there are a few indications that it might happen someday.

For one Netflix has already released apps for other gaming platforms like the Xbox and PlayStation. So, it’s not too much of a stretch to think that the streaming giant might eventually make its way to the Switch.

Nintendo has also made a point of emphasizing the Switch’s potential as a media-consumption device. The company has released apps for services like Hulu and YouTube, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if Netflix was eventually added to the lineup.

Nintendo has been making a concerted effort to transition the Switch into a more comprehensive entertainment device. Adding apps like Netflix would help to make the Switch more versatile and useful for a variety of reasons.

Ultimately, it makes sense that the Switch would have Netflix as you can easily connect it to any TV via the USB-C cable and dock via your TV’s HDMI port. That would allow you to stream Netflix without needing a Smart TV or anything like that.

However, despite how much sense it makes to me (and pretty much everyone else) that the Switch would have the Netflix app it just hasn’t happened yet despite the Switch being out for almost 6 years!

So, while there’s no guarantee that Netflix will ever come to the Nintendo Switch, there are signs that it might happen someday. In the meantime, you can still access your favorite Netflix shows and movies with other streaming devices, like smart TVs (such as those with Roku), streaming sticks (like the Firestick), your PC, or even your favorite Apple and Android tablet.

Why Doesn’t The Nintendo Switch Let You Watch Netflix?

Well folks, it’s a question that’s been on everyone’s minds for quite some time now. Since Netflix is supported on various platforms, why doesn’t the Nintendo Switch let you watch Netflix? I mean, come on Nintendo, it’s not like we haven’t been asking for this feature for years.

Let’s think about it. We have the Switch, a console that’s portable, has a built-in touchscreen, and is perfect for streaming on the go. It’s like the holy trinity of streaming devices. But no, Nintendo just had to go and ruin it for us by not allowing us to watch Netflix on it. I mean, what are we supposed to do, watch Netflix on our phones? Puh-lease.

But here’s the real kicker, Nintendo has allowed other streaming services like Hulu and YouTube to be available on the Switch. So why not Netflix? It’s not like it’s some small, obscure streaming service. It’s the king of streaming services. The one that’s been around for longer than most of us have been alive. It’s like Nintendo is purposely trying to make our lives difficult.

In all seriousness, it’s a mystery as to why you cannot get Netflix on the Nintendo Switch. But, in the meantime, it looks like we’ll just have to stick to watching Netflix on our trusty laptops or TVs. Or you know, just buy a different streaming device. But where’s the fun in that?

So, unfortunately, there is no Nintendo Switch Netflix app and unless the Switch steps up its game so many years after it was originally released (which I think is pretty unlikely) there won’t be any way to enjoy Netflix on your Switch in the future either.

So if you are looking to install Netflix on your Nintendo video game console… you’re just plain out of luck for now.
