How to play Wii games on the Wii U
Probably the best thing about Nintendo is that they love their game systems and the gamers that play on them as well as have great pride in all of their consoles. Because of this, Nintendo made the Wii U able to play games from the Original Wii. Nintendo was the only console maker to do this from the beginning. The XBox did not start doing this until the release of the XBox One, and the Playstation had not allowed you to play games from older consoles until the PS5!
To begin playing Wii games on the Wii U, you should simply start up the Wii Menu application from your Wii U Menu. Inside this menu, you’ll see all of your current Wii information and different games that you can buy. You can also just sync the Wii remote to the Wii U insert the disc for the Wii game and it should start automatically as well.
Although setting up the Wii U when you first get it can seem to be very daunting, here is a video that shows exactly how long it takes to connect everything as well as the proper way to set up your account and how to connect other players to the game system.
Can you use Wii accessories on the Wii U?
Now that you know that Wii games will work on the Wii U the question still remains of whether the Wii accessories will work with the Wii U too.
The Wii accessoriesWILL work with the Wii U as well. That includes the Wii remote, Nunchuck, the Wii balance board, and the classic controller. The Wii U is backwards compatible in virtually every way including working with all Wii accessories.
However, just because the Wii accessories are designed to work on the Wii U that doesn’t mean that you won’t want to also purchase other Wii U accessories as well as the controllers designed specifically for the Wii U are quite good and in many ways better than the controllers for the original Wii.
How to move Wii content to the Wii U
You can move all your Wii content to your new Wii U using a System Transfer. It will migrate all of your data including your purchased content, saved data, Mii characters and other content over to the new console. Doing this will make sure you don’t lose any of your content that you worked so hard to create.
To do the System Transfer, you will need your Wii, your Wii U, an SD card, and an internet connection. You will also need to remember that you can only move all the data at once, rather than on an individual game basis. You also can’t transfer data back to the Wii once you’ve transferred it to the Wii U.
When you’re ready, make sure your Wii U has the latest system update and then connect both the Wii U and your Wii to the internet, and follow these steps:
- Set up your Wii U and select the Wii Menu.
- Boot up the Wii System Transfer application, then follow the on-screen instructions.
- Insert an SD Card or SDHC Card into the SD Card slot of the Wii U console when prompted.
- When prompted, remove the SD Card and leave the Wii U console in its current state. Do not turn off the power or return to the Wii Menu.
- Connect the Wii console to the TV.
- On Wii, start the Wii Shop Channel and download the Wii U Transfer Tool from the Channels section.
- Start the Wii U Transfer Tool and follow the on-screen instructions.
- After the process, the application will inform you which data has been moved. Remove the SD Card from the Wii when the application asks you to do so.
- Insert the SD Card into the Wii U console, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the system transfer.
- Once the process is complete, you can enjoy your content on your new Wii U console.

What is the Wii?
The Wii is a home video game console released by Nintendo. It launched in 2006, and it introduced motion-controlled gaming to a wide audience of Nintendo fans and people who didn’t traditionally play video games. When the Wii first released, there was nothing on the market like it at all!
That is one of the things that made the Wii so special compared to all the other consoles that were on the market at that time.
When it launched there were two groups of people who were talking about the Wii. The first group of people did not actually like the Wii as it used hand motions and sensors to keep track of the person, and which way they moved. They may have not liked it because they did not understand how it worked, or maybe just because they were scared about a company having sensors in their home. Either way, this group of people did not like the Wii, and definitely made their opinion known.
The second group of people are those who opened the new technology, and wanted to learn how it worked. They learned that the machine didn’t track your specific movement, but only used sensors to pick up on the wand that was in your hand. These people purchased the Nintendo Wii, and played the games and had fun battling their friends on all the cool amazing games the Wii had to offer.
A few years later in 2013, a new value model of the Wii was launched. This console became known as the Wii Mini. The Wii Mini allowed a new audience to enjoy the Wii software for a much better price. One thing you should know is that the Wii mini does not connect to the Internet and does not support online features.
What is Wii U?
The Wii U is a home video game console developed by Nintendo as the successor to the Wii. It was released in late 2012, and it was the eighth-generation video game console. When it was released, it had to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4. The Wii U is also the first console that Nintendo ever made to support HD graphics.
If you love any Nintendo system, then I’m sure you will love playing the Wii U console as well as the original Wii console. Nintendo has gone above and beyond to allow their customers to play the best games ever made anywhere they want.
Nintendo has always been a top contender in the gaming community, but if they keep this up, they may just take over all the other consoles.
